Triangle Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association Scholarship
The scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to students enrolled or planning to enroll at The Pennsylvania State University who have a demonstrated need for funds to meet their necessary college expenses.
Five dollars of the Triangle Chapter's $15 membership dues is set aside to further fund the scholarship.
You can donate to our endowed Scholarship to Penn State via our online payments page. In addition, donations may be made anytime through the University and are entirely tax-deductible. Use the designation SXXTR to be sure your donation is allocated to the scholarship.
The Chapter began fund raising for the scholarship in 1995. The endowed scholarship was created in 2002.
Each summer, the Triangle Chapter selects a local Triangle-area student to receive its annual scholarship. The Chapter raises funds in a variety of ways, including applying $5 of each membership fee to go towards this scholarship. This year, we awarded our highest amount ever - $5500 – to a Triangle-are student attending the University Park campus. Please read her communication to our Chapter below:
“Hello! My name is Lindsay Madden and I am a Junior at Penn State. I am majoring in Animal Science and minoring in Poultry and Avian sciences. I am the social chair for the club Swim Team and am a member of the Pre-Vet and Poultry Science club. I plan to attend North Carolina State University upon graduating to attend their prestigious veterinary school to pursue a career as a vet. Thank you so much for awarding me the Triangle Alumni Chapter scholarship!”
We congratulate Lindsay on her award and look forward to hearing of her further accomplishments!
In late spring, the Chapter will receive a list of all eligible students from the University for the Triangle Chapter's scholarship. Eligibility is determined by GPA (2.5 minimum) and financial need (students must submit a FAFSA form to Penn State), and North Carolina residency. We take into consideration that first year students do not have a GPA and consult with Penn State's Office of Student Aid when necessary.
Eligible students will be contacted by the Chapter and asked to complete an application, write a short essay, and submit it to the Chapter's Board of Directors for review.
The amount of the award varies from year to year.
